Helping your child to read and write

Help your child with their reading and writing
Did you know that …

There are 26 letters of the alphabet but they make 44 sounds.
It is essential that all our pupils know these sounds.  It will enable them to become confident readers and spellers.

The link below offers great support and advice for parents and children. It is vital that we teach the children the correct pronunciations. We are finding that the children have many misconceptions, and are making mistakes from reception right through to Year 6.

Please look at the link below with your child and listen to the pronunciations. You can make a big difference!

Please see your child’s class teacher if you have any questions or would like to learn more.

Rivers

Rivers
Swaying smoothly,
Powerful as the wind,
Drifting gently into the sea,
What fun.

Thought of the day...

If you could learn about ANYTHING today, what would you learn?

( The only rule is that you have to be able to justify to your teacher how important it is!)

Why would a Mezuzah hang slightly to the left on a door frame?

This week we will be making our own Mezuzot in class.  We will have a quiet time to reflect and write a simple family prayer.

Jewish People traditionally have many sacred items in their homes - one such item is the Mezuzah (plural Mezuzot). The name ‘Mezuzah’ refers to a scroll of parchment that is kept inside a case on almost every doorway in a Jewish home. The scroll contains a prayer comprised of verses from the Torah – a sacred Jewish text, written in Hebrew. The case that holds the scroll is often highly decorated with religious symbols.

It is usually affixed at least two thirds up on the door frame.
