How not to make a Jam sandwich....

To launch our instruction writing week, the children wrote instructions so Mr Preston could make a jam sandwich. He followed these to the letter so we had jam and butter all over the tables and ended up with a right mess! This highlighted the importance of clear instructions and then the children wrote a much better set!

Where is Egypt?

Great map work looking for Egypt on a world map and then hunting for the River Nile and Cairo.

The mystery case writing

We spent quite some time looking at the mystery case and brainstorming ideas. Then the writing flowed. Mrs Peterson was particularly impressed by how much the children wrote and how careful they were using their purple pens. Well done everyone!

Choosing books for Accelerated Reader

It was exciting to go to the library to hear from Mrs Warder the best way to choose books. The children were very enthusiastic and were very good at choosing books with the right colour sticker.

Included or excluded?

As part of our PSHE work we discussed and did some brilliant role play on how it feels to be part of a group or excluded from a group.

Egyptian homework

Y4 Homework Project, SEPTEMBER 2017 – Enigmatic Egyptians

Following on from our great trip to the Tutankhamun Exhibition in Dorchester we wanted to launch the Y4 homework project for this term.
We would like the children to choose and create one of the following:
An Egyptian Death Mask (we are all familiar with the one pictured right of Tutankhamun)
They can use paint, clay, fabric, cardboard… indeed anything that they can think of –  it can be 2D or 3D…there are no rules!

OR

Their very own Egyptian sarcophagus in which they can hide their own valuables (this is following on from our art work and some children wanted to make their own real life sarcophagus for their precious things). Again they can use paint, clay, fabric, cardboard… indeed anything that they can think of – there are no rules!
Below are a few examples of real life sarcophagi for a bit of inspiration but we want their minds to run wild!
Please hand in your homework project on Monday 16th October ready for our Egypt day on the 18th.

We will be holding an ‘Eyptian Day’ on Wednesday 18th October where their amazing creations will be on display!

Don’t forget – if you have a show box or boxes, please bring them in next week!

X table challenge

I set some of the children a timed, x table challenge today - although there may be a couple of small mistakes I think that working under pressure they were brilliant! Well done you four!

Continuing with our Egyptian Sarcophagi in art!

Zumba fun

Our dance topic for the half term is Zumba... Each week we are very lucky that Mrs Pickett is giving up her own time to teach the children Zumba, with the aim of getting the children to create their own Zumba sequence before half term. Today was all about having fun and getting into the groove!

A strange arrival . . .

A mysterious case arrived at the school entrance early this morning. An assembly to make sure no one touched it added to the suspense as Mr Lavis came in with green slime on his hands. Ideas for the story surrounding the case are already flowing.

What could a cheese grater be?

We had great fun being archaeologists and everyone had brilliant ideas about the possible uses for a cheese grater from being a disco light, a hat, a hair dryer, a paper cutter and even a tablet making machine! This set us up for thinking about the importance of ancient Egyptian artifacts and how important they are for looking for clues about the past.
